Christian Faubel is an interdisciplinary scientist and artist. He holds a doctorate in electrical engineering and conducted research at the Institute for Neuroinformatics from 2002 to 2012. From 2012 to 2018, he worked as an artist, researcher, and teacher at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Since 2020, he has held a professorship for Smart Connected Products at the Technical University of Cologne, where he teaches in the Code & Context bachelor's program. In 2002, he founded derstrudel, a collective dedicated to promoting a relaxed approach to electronics and robotics. Since 2002, he has given more than 50 workshops on building simple analog robots at international venues and festivals. In his artworks, installations, workshops, and performances, he attempts to convey insights into theoretical concepts such as self-organization, emergence, and embodiment along an aesthetic dimension. He sees his artworks, workshops, and performances in the tradition of philosophical toys, as they combine the communication of scientific concepts with pleasure and amusement.

Denise Frey macht elektroakustische Ambient-Musik – ruhig, vielschichtig, atmosphärisch. Mit Saxophon, MPC, Effektgeräten und einem feinen Gespür für Klang formt sie in ihren Konzerten Klanglandschaften, die einladen zum Loslassen, Lauschen, Entspannen. Ihre Musik entsteht live – improvisiert, organisch, unmittelbar.

Schon als Kind war Musik für sie ein innerer Antrieb. Mit sechs begann sie am Keyboard, mit 13 kam das Saxophon – nur, weil ein Junge, den sie mochte, es spielte und sie genau so cool sein wollte. Sie blieb dabei. Erst wollte sie Schauspielerin werden, doch ein körperliches Handicap hinderte sie am Schauspiel – also studierte sie klassisches Saxophon. Nach Jahrzehnten intensiver Musikerfahrung, fand sie einen Weg zur freien Improvisation, zur elektronischen Musik – und schließlich zu sich selbst.

„Ich habe nichts gefunden, was für mich mehr Sinn ergibt als Musik“, sagt sie. Musik war nie Plan, sondern Notwendigkeit – ein Mittel zur Selbstheilung, zur Verbindung, zum Ausdruck. In der elektronischen Produktion fand sie nicht nur neue Klänge, sondern auch Freiheit: „Ich wollte nie abhängig sein. Schon mit 16 war mir klar: Ich will eine Band sein – alleine.“

Heute steht sie allein auf der Bühne – und füllt den Raum mit Tiefe. Ihre Sets sind verspielt, meditativ, manchmal technoid – immer offen für das Unerwartete. Was zählt, ist die Erfahrung für sie und für ihr Publikum. „Ich habe immer eine gute Zeit, wenn ich spiele. Und ich wünsche mir, dass andere das auch haben – dass sie leichter rausgehen, als sie reingekommen sind.“

Denise Frey steht nicht da, um sich zu inszenieren. Ihre Haltung ist leise, aber klar. Es geht ihr um Echtheit. Um Berührung. Um einen Raum, in dem alles da sein darf. Wer ihre Konzerte besucht, erlebt Musik nicht als Performance, sondern als Einladung. Neben ihren Solokonzerten spielt sie im ND Duo mit Nico Petry (Drums & Elektronik) und unterrichtet Saxophon, Flöte, Improvisation und Musikproduktion. Unsere elektronischen Punksongs bilden die Grundlage für deutschsprachige Texte, die sowohl poetisch als auch direkt politische Botschaften transportieren. Ursprünglich in der Hanseatischen Materialverwaltung – einem Ort voller kreativer Köpfe und geretteter Bühnenwelten – mit der Technik und der Freiheit des Auflegens in Berührung gekommen, entwickelte ich meinen eigenen Zugang zur elektronischen Musik. While he loves infodumping khem I mean giving very important and good talks on astrophysics on drag stages, this time he will rather bring drag to the congress and is happy to offer a stage to established and new artists in this show.

I love loopy and trippy techno. When dancing, I love to let go of everything around me and enter into a deeper dialogue with myself. At this stage, I am 100% in tune with myself. This works for me when the groove drives me and the elements I hear are interesting but not too intrusive. That's exactly what I love to create on the floor.

To achieve this and also to create the necessary element of surprise, I combine different loops randomly and blindly. Since I never know exactly what will happen, I am also surprised and inspired by it.

Why are there three people dancing in the DJ booth, you may have asked yourself. But anyone who has experienced RSS Disco live will hear and see: every hand has a task in threading the seams of their genre-spanning sets.

RSS Disco have become synonymous with euphoric experiences for festival & club audiences all over Europe. Coming from a background of house and techno they use their straws to slurp across (and to the very bottom of) the cosmic melange that is music.

They play big indie festivals as well as Ibiza, dark clubs as well as small dusty dancefloors by lakes. They release mixes for Dublab Radio in Los Angeles, ARTE Concert, or The Lot Radio from New York. Their live recordings or remixes for Tomemitsu, Keshavara, Rupa or Fotos have hundreds of thousands of clicks. And their version of "Les Taxis Pour Les Galaxies / Le Vent Nous Portera" is already a classic and will never stop generating goosebumps on dance floors all over the world.

Off the dance floor they also keep busy, running their Label Mireia Records with releases by artists like Johannes Klingebiel, Tomemitsu, Das Komplex, Johannes Klingebiel, Jacques Bon, Zombies in Miami, Casino Times or Lauer and Erobique. Entstanden ist das Kollektiv infolge einer Waldbesetzung in der Schweiz. Der Staat experimentierte infolge darauf mit der Überwälzung der Räumungskosten. Diese gefährliche antidemokratische Entwicklung versuchen wir zu bekämpfen.
