Know Your Citizens
State Authorities' Access to Sensitive Information
The balance between effective criminal investigations and the protection of human rights is currently intensively discussed. A number of approaches demonstrate a tendency that state authorities gain for more access to sensitive data. But do these information really help to prevent crimes (e.g. terrorist attacks) and how save are these information in the hands of state authorities'?
The current discussion and legislative approaches shall be demonstrated by analysing some topic examples:
- Data Retention Directive (Access of investigation authorities to traffic data)
- Real Time Collection of Content Data (Access to content data)
- Restriction of the use of Encryption Technology - Key Escrow System (Access to encryption key)
