Axel Arnbak (26) works as a Policy Strategist at the Dutch digital civil rights movement Bits of Freedom. He is responsible for all the privacy related dossiers, including wiretapping, encryption, centralized personal data storage and data retention. He frequently endeavours on field trips to Brussels and finds himself amazed by the sheer quantity of similar looking bureaucrats that persistently pursue moustache-twirlingly evil schemes, such as data retention. His master’s thesis on telecommunications data retention - “Everything under control?” - won the Dutch Internet Scriptieprijs 2009 and the University of Amsterdam Thesis Award 2010.
