Michael Cruickshank is an Australian freelance journalist and analyst currently based in Berlin, specialising in OSINT, defence, the (mis)use of technology, and climate conflicts.

I am a freelance conflict journalist and analyst originally from Brisbane, Australia. Since I left the tropics 8 years ago, I have travelled to some of the stranger corners of the planet and reported on a wide range of issues.

The focus of my stories and research is the nexus on technology and conflict. Starting work at the beginning of the Arab Spring, I have watched the way network effects, emerging technologies and worsening climate change have fuelled increasing instability around the world.
